How to read this page

The warranty is quoted in full below. Two kinds of text sit on this page, and they are not the same thing.

Flip’s note — not part of the warranty

Anything set in this serif type against an amber rule is the warranty itself, quoted word for word. Anything in a dashed box like this one is Flip Cabinetry explaining it in plain language — helpful, but not part of the legal terms. Where the two ever seem to differ, the quoted text governs.

The only thing we added is the small amber signposts — the section numbers 1 to 8, the clause numbers and the short headings, so you can find a section. They are ours, they are not part of the legal text, and they carry no legal meaning.

5

What is not covered

Four clauses. GoldenHome numbers them 1 to 4; the 5.1–5.4 labels and the bold heading on each are this page’s own, added so we can point you at the right one. They carry no legal meaning. The text beneath every heading is the warranty, quoted in full.

5.1  Modification, installation and handling

Warranty text — verbatim

Any modification to the hardware structure or finish of the original consumer purchaser's cabinetry by anyone not specifically authorized by GoldenHome Cabinetry will void this limited warranty. The product must be used exclusively for its intended purpose to be covered by this limited warranty. This limited warranty will be void if the cabinet or any of its components or parts are modified, improperly installed or damaged in any way prior to or during installation, or if installed or used for other than normal residential applications. The warranty does not cover damage caused by improper handling, storage, dirt, chemicals, abrasives or citrus cleaning products, installation, assembly or disassembly, transportation or other intentional or negligent damage, product modification, exposure to extreme humidity, moisture or excessive heat or cold (temperatures outside the range of 50-85°F range and humidity outside the range of 30-55% are considered extreme), nor does it cover damage caused by normal wear and tear, misuse, neglect, accident, alteration misuse, improper loading, or improper maintenance.

Flip’s note — not part of the warranty

Buried in the middle of that clause are two numbers a homeowner can actually act on. Conditions outside these ranges are the ones the warranty calls extreme:

Temperature 50-85°F
Humidity 30-55%

Worth a thought before a cottage is left unheated over a winter, before cabinets go into a house the heat is not on in yet, or in a basement that runs damp. Both figures are lifted straight out of the clause above, which is the text that governs.

5.2  Natural wood colour, grain and joint lines

Warranty text — verbatim

Natural wood colors, grain patterns and characteristics may vary, based on naturally occurring wood characteristics, and are subject to subtle changes over time. GoldenHome Cabinetry will not be responsible for these changes in your cabinets, such as changes in color, grain, mineral streaks, and knots, painted doors, drawer fronts and face frames may eventually show visible cracks around the joint area and the cabinet color may darken or lighten over time, these conditions are considered normal and are not considered defects and are not covered by this limited warranty.

5.3  Sunlight, cleaners and other environmental exposure

Warranty text — verbatim

As time goes by, ultraviolet light, sunlight, fumes, household cleaners and other environmental conditions may also affect the color and integrity of the surface or appearance of the product. These variations are considered to be in the nature of the material in relation to its environmental exposure and are not considered defects in material or workmanship and are not covered by this limited warranty.

5.4  Door joints, gaps and minor cracks

Warranty text — verbatim

Door joints in particular may respond to their environmental conditions. Gaps that may form interior joints due to environmental conditions are not covered by this Limited Warranty. This Limited Warranty does not cover or apply to minor cracks in cabinets; given the nature of the material, minor cracks are inevitable in wood cabinets. Every species and grade of solid wood will behave in a manner that will eventually result in minor cracks.

6

A note on wood

Warranty text — verbatim

Wood is wood, and expansion and contraction continue to occur year after year as it compensates and adapts to changing atmospheric humidity and temperature conditions. It is common to observe shrinkage and expansion in the center panel of a door. Once it has adapted to seasonal changes, it will return to its natural position within a few months.

Flip’s note — not part of the warranty

In ordinary words: wood takes up moisture in a humid summer and gives it back in a dry, heated winter, so the centre panel of a door can sit a little differently from one season to the next — shrinking, then expanding again. The warranty above calls that common, and says that once the door has adapted to seasonal changes it will return to its natural position within a few months.

End of the GoldenHome Cabinetry limited warranty text. Everything below is Flip Cabinetry’s own guidance on using it.

Section 7

How to make a claim

The warranty says all warranty actions go through the original dealer. If you bought from us, that is Flip Cabinetry — start here.

  1. 1

Find your original Proof of Purchase receipt

The warranty requires it (section 4), and the coverage period runs from the Purchase Date (section 1). Flat Door and 5 Sides MDF Shaker Door carry different terms, so tell us which you have — or ask us, if you are not sure.

  2. 2

    Contact Flip Cabinetry, your dealer

Tell us what happened and which cabinets or parts are affected. Photographs of the problem, and of the whole run it sits in, help GoldenHome look at it properly.

Flip Cabinetry, 250 Don Hillock Dr, Aurora, ON L4G 0G9, Canada.

  3. 3

    GoldenHome examines the product

Under section 3, GoldenHome examines the product and at its sole discretion determines whether the warranty applies. If the product is no longer available it substitutes a similar product, and colour match is not guaranteed. Remember that labour and shipping are not included (section 2).

  4. 4

If your dealer is no longer a GoldenHome dealer

Section 2 covers this: if that dealer is no longer in business with GoldenHome, another dealer will be assigned. You can also contact GoldenHome through goldenhomecabinetrycanada.com for more information.

Flip’s note — not part of the warranty

We have deliberately not published a response time or a claim deadline here, because GoldenHome has not given us one to publish — ask us when you call.

Section 8

Common questions

Flip’s plain-language guide — not part of the warranty

These answers point you to the clause that governs. The quoted text above is what actually decides a claim.

A gap has opened at a door joint. Is that covered?
Clause 5.4 says gaps that may form interior joints due to environmental conditions are not covered, and that minor cracks are inevitable in wood cabinets. Section 6 explains the seasonal movement behind it.
The centre panel of a door has shrunk or swollen this season.
Section 6 addresses exactly this: it is common to observe shrinkage and expansion in the centre panel of a door, and once it has adapted to seasonal changes it will return to its natural position within a few months.
My new door does not match the colour of the old ones.
Section 3 states colour match is not guaranteed, as all cabinets will change over time; clauses 5.2 and 5.3 treat colour change from wood characteristics and from light, fumes and household cleaners as normal rather than a defect.
There is water damage under my sink.
Section 4 lists water damage among the things this warranty does not cover, and clause 5.1 excludes damage from exposure to extreme humidity or moisture. It is worth calling us either way, so we can look at what happened with you.
Someone else installed or altered the cabinets.
Read clause 5.1 closely: modification by anyone not specifically authorized by GoldenHome Cabinetry voids the limited warranty, as does improper installation or damage before or during installation.
Is my restaurant or rental fit-out covered the same way?
No — the terms differ. Section 1 gives Residential Customers 5 years and Commercial Customers 1 year, the 5 Sides MDF Shaker Door is 1 year for both, and section 2 limits the warranty to Domestic, indoor use. Clause 5.1 also voids it where cabinets are installed or used for other than normal residential applications.
Who pays for the labour to fit a replacement part?
Section 2 is explicit: labor and shipping are not included in this limited warranty.
I have lost my receipt.
Section 4 requires the original Proof of Purchase receipt. If you cannot find yours, contact us with whatever order details you still have and we will go from there.

Still not sure where you stand?

A real person in Aurora will read the clause with you and tell you straight, before or after you order.
